Now you can have your Gucci and hike in it, too. Since the first images of The North Face X Gucci collaboration were released just before the holidays, we’ve been plotting our own adventure to break in this feat of functional fashion. And we’re not the only ones: a quick scroll across #TheNorthFacexGucci and we find Tamu McPherson (Birds of a Feather) A$AP Rocky, Jared Leto, and Jennifer Lopez have cocooned themselves in the most coveted of parkas and puffers.
“I don’t differentiate between beauty and functionality,” declares Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele in a video that teased the collection, which includes everything from ready to wear and accessories to tents and sleeping bags—all emblazoned with the recognizable half-domed The North Face logo, cleverly altered with Gucci’s red and green bands. “I find it very comfortable to be beautiful and I find it very beautiful to be comfortable.”
Never one to shy away from boundaries, Michele continues to explore dimensions far beyond the runway with this latest collection. It’s the marriage of two beloved brands that each place freedom at their core values — freedom of expression, of exploration, of place and personality.
The campaign, conceived by Michele and photographed by artist Daniel Shea, is a series of stills and videos depicting a pack of hikers joyfully making their way through the Alps with breathtaking scenery that truly inspires wanderlust. “We are nature and nature is us,” says Michele.
True to each of the brands sustainability efforts, The North Face X Gucci Collection incorporates regeneratively sourced materials in its luggage, and archival fabrics from The North Face materials library have been partially incorporated into the collection.
Folly and function never looked so good.
