Orlebar Brown, British clothing brand specializing in tailored men’s swim shorts, just released an exclusive collection inspired by the most famous spy in the world—Bond, James Bond. As of this morning, the limited-edition pieces are now available at Bal Harbour Shops. Curious as to the inspiration behind this one-of-a-kind vintage collection, we asked the company’s founder Adam Brown a few questions about the 007 Capsule Collection.
What did the design process look like for the 007 collection?
James Bond has a devoted following and also drew the world’s attention to British style so there was a definite pressure to create a collection that felt authentic and wearable. I’m proud to say we have achieved this with the help of EON Productions, who produced the James Bond film series, as we delved into their archives and spent months researching fabrics and references. None of the 007 pieces are exact replicas; they’re inspired with an Orlebar Brown twist so we’ve incorporated our signature fabrics like towelling, Merino and linen.
Of all the pieces in the collection, which is your favorite and why?
The white linen pleated evening shirt inspired by the one worn by George Lazenby as Bond in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, or the green cotton linen safari jacket worn by Roger Moore in The Man With The Golden Gun as they’re undeniably stylish, classic pieces.
Why is this collection so unique? In other words, what do you want the client to experience when they see the 007 pieces for the first time?
As the collection was designed in collaboration with EON Productions, it was created with Bond in mind from start to finish so each piece is a true reflection of 007 style. When customers see it for the first time, I want them to envisage themselves looking just as good as Bond did. It also brings back a wonderful sense of nostalgia for the vintage films.
Of all the James Bond actors, which do you relate most to and why?
Images of Sean Connery were on my very first moodboard for Orlebar Brown and then our new 007 collection includes pieces inspired by looks worn by Sean Connery as James Bond so he has reappeared as a reference throughout the journey. I feel like he shares a lot of the same qualities as us; intrinsically British but ultimately international, adventurous spirit, effortless style.
Any exciting upcoming special collections or Bal Harbour Shops’ exclusives you can tell us about?
There’ll be new categories and developments in our accessories and sport collections, as well as a really exciting move for us towards sustainability with products made from recycled ocean plastic. We’ll be revealing more information about that later this year so stay tuned.
