The Bal Harbour Shops Creative Challenge is back!

We’re looking for the most promising fashion illustrators to submit a new, original illustration that captures the spirit of Bal Harbour Shops. Our editorial team along with guest judges, illustrators Jenny Kroik and Amalia Restrepo, will select 10 finalists whose work will be featured in the Fall 2022 issue of Bal Harbour Magazine, as well as one grand prize winner who, in addition to being published, will take home $2,500.

Championing Fashion Illustration

Bal Harbour Magazine has been a longtime champion of fashion illustration, featuring the work of established and rising talent alike including David Downton, Donald Robertson, Jean-Philippe Delhomme, Ruben Toledo, Kelly Beeman, Jenny Walton, Cara Deming Butler and many more. We launched the Creative Challenge in 2020 as a means of further expanding our support of this genre and its creators.

Guidelines

We are accepting one submission per person and will select our top 10 submissions to be reviewed by our panel of judges. From those finalists, one winner will take home $2,500. All 10 finalists’ work will be featured in the Fall 2022 issue of Bal Harbour Magazine.

Meet the Judges

Jenny Kroik is a New York City-based artist, illustrator and instructor. She earned a BFA from the Art Institute of Boston in 2006, and an MFA from the University of Oregon, where she later taught, in 2010. Kroik has produced several cover illustrations for The New Yorker, and was commissioned to create a cover for Bal Harbour Magazine’s Spring 2020 Issue. You can follow her @jkroik.

Amalia Restrepo is a Colombian illustrator and architect based in Miami. Her work is an exploration of extremes that evoke dreams, magic, nostalgia and a sense of strange familiarity. Restrepo was the winner of the 2021 Creative Challenge and in addition to Bal Harbour, her illustrations have also appeared in The Washington Post and Good Housekeeping magazine.
