For some companies, “Made in Italy” is merely a fact stitched onto a garment label. For others, like the venerable Italian menswear company Canali, it’s a way of life. Canali just opened its latest outpost (there are 220 freestanding boutiques around the world) at Bal Harbour, bringing its signature Italian threads and devastatingly dapper style to the Shops.

The new store is more than 1,700 square feet, providing lots of space for the company to show off its full line of suits, formalwear, leisurewear, shoes and accessories. The store was designed to emphasize texture and materials, which is the cornerstone of the brand. The warm ambience is felt through earth tones and materials like marble, stone, leather and wood. Italian glass and Dedar fabrics juxtapose the earthy materials, and help divide the space into areas dedicated to each of the line’s collections.

The third generation of the Canali family is now in charge of the company’s operations, maintaining its roots in Triuggio, Italy, where Canali was founded in 1934 by brothers Giovanni and Giacomo as an artisan’s workshop. Today all of the company’s collections are produced in the seven production centers it owns, all in Italy, each specializing in one particular type of product, made by skilled craftsmen.  Even the fabrics used—including inner lining and buttons—are produced in Biella, Italy, many of which are created especially for Canali.

For more than 75 years, Canali continues to be an ambassador for the world of “Made in Italy” products, one who recognizes that their “Italian-ness” is an essential value.
